Smokovec (in fact there are four Skovec - Stary / an Old, Nowy / a New, Górny / an Upper and Dolny / an Lower Smokovec) is a part of the town Vysoke Tatry (High Tatras). The most important one (and the most interesting, in my opinion) is Stary Smokovec (the Old one). There is plenty of nice hotels (with the famous Grand Hotel built in 1904), pensions and cottages (chata), as well as good restaurants and well equipped shops. There is also a main office of the Mountain Rescue Team in Stary Smokovec. Thanks to the fast train elektriczka
the town has a very good connection with other Tatra's resorts and the main town Poprad.
Worth knowing: there are five easy ski slopes in Stary Smokovec, with the longest one of 2.350m from Hrebienok to Smokovec and one red marked slope Hrebienok - Horna Luka: Stary Smokovec in winter
Hiking is a main atraction for summer holidays in Smokovec: Stary Smokovec in summer
Zdiar is he most important tourist destination in the White Tatras (Bielskie Tatry). You can find here many private guest houses ands well as the pensions and hotels. There are two ski centers in Zdiar - STREDNICA - great for beginners and intemediate skiers with nine POMA lifts (and 7 km of cross country pistes) and BACHLEDOVA DOLINA - JEZERSKO with two chair-lifts and eight POMA lifts (and 20 km for cross country skiers).
